Our fund raising is under budget and SomaFM is in debt. Over the summer, we raised on average only $21,000 a month, leaving us about about $25,000 in the hole as of the end of September.
But thanks to your support in October, we have partially caught up, raising an extra $15,000 last month. But we still need to catch up in November and December, so if you haven't already supported SomaFM, now is the time to!
We need to raise at least $37,000 in November and another $37,000 in December to balance our 2008 operating budget, which is largely our bandwidth and music royalty costs.
As of November 18th, we've raised $19,933 this month. Thanks you! But at this rate, based on previous months, we project we'll raise $33,000 in November; which is $4000 short of what we need. (This is getting better; thanks to everyone who is stepping up to support SomaFM!)

We rely on you for support!
We have some pressing bills coming due, notably our 2007-8 music royalty payments due at the end of the year, hence the pressing need to meet our budget by the end of December.
If you value SomaFM and the music we play, please support us. We operate on a voluntary subscription model to ensure that no one is left out: we don't want to exclude someone who wants to listen but can't afford to support us financially. But if you can afford to support us, we're counting on you to do just that.
Less than 10% of our listeners support us financially. While all those other internet radio stations make lots of money playing all those annoying commercials, we struggle to pay our bills and break even. If you think about all the great music you get to hear on SomaFM, doesn't $4.20 a month or $50 a year seem like a great deal?
We have always and will continue to operate on a sustainable financial model with no outside investors or venture capitalists to answer to, allowing us to be truly independent internet radio. Making a great radio station that you can count on is more important to us than making money, not the other way around (like most other radio stations).
